Avocado

Because let’s be honest you’re married to guac aren’t you πŸ˜‰. If you’re like me then the love for avocado is so real you never even considered getting a prenup πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚. Alright, all jokes aside avocado is truly a wonderful addition to any diet and I’m here to share with you some of the reasons why:

First of all, Avocado aka the “alligator pear” is a wonderful source of nutrients.

  • It contains 20 different vitamins and minerals and even boasts more potassium (14% DV) than your average banana (10% DV). Living in today’s modern society full of high sodium options that have been shown to put you at risk for heart disease, it is important to add a good source of potassium to help manage sodium levels, reduce blood pressure, the onset of heart attacks, and stroke.

Secondly, Avocado is loaded with fat!
Wait what?!

  • We’re not talking about the bad fats that cause you to spend endless hours staring at yourself in the mirror wondering where that stomach came from. (Trust me, no matter how we look we’ve all done it.) Where avocado is concerned we’re looking at a great source of monosaturated fats that according to WHFoods has been shown “to lower risk of heart disease, improve blood levels of LDL, and lower levels of oxidative stress in the bloodstream.” Not only that, the fat content also allows your body to absorb carotenoids  better. This is contrary to other foods like sweet potato that also have carotenoids but lack the fat content that allows the body to absorb it efficiently. Carotenoids are important because they protect against cell damage, chronic disease, and serve in the campaign for anti-aging. Want to look and feel younger? Eating an avocado a day may help πŸ˜‰.
