Rise above self-doubt

You are a Resilient Innovative Spiritual being! 

You are capable of anything you put your mind to and the reality that you see is the one that you manifest. If you want the stars you have to reach for it. We all have exceptional potential to create wonderful experiences and garner influence into our own lives and the lives of others. However, in order to wield these great gifts we must learn to rise above self-doubt. 

In psychology there is a term credited to Albert Bandura called self-efficacy. It may have began as a term used in psychology, but today it has expanded it’s influence to other fields of study and is now a prevalent concept in health, fitness, and lifestyle change. Why bring this up? Increasing self-efficacy decreases self-doubt.

Therefore, I have compiled a list of things you can do to increase self efficacy and rise above self-doubt!

  1. Praise the little things- Although some accomplishments may seem too small to acknowledge, acknowledge them anyway. The feeling of getting something right has a way of giving us momentum and helps us to percieve ourselves as more capable to perform the tasks that our ahead of us.
  2. Make it fun– Physiological states affect how we percieve our ability to complete an activity. In other words, if we feel anxious or nervous we have a tendency to believe we won’t perform well, but if we feel calm or happy we believe more in our own capabilities and we perform better.
  3. Watch and learn– We learn from vicarious experience (putting yourself in someone else’s shoes) Consider the act of watching someone perform something correctly as just as significant as performing it yourself. Think of it as a workout. The more reps and sets you do the better you get at it and the stronger you become. Likewise, the more you observe the more competent you become and the higher your self-efficacy. 
  4. Believe in yourself- As competent as we may be in any given task, parts of us want to be encouraged, or verbally persuaded to believe in ourselves. So here I am telling you that you can succeed despite the odds, and I’m willing to say it every day until you believe it too.

      1. Glad you think so, however it might be more accurate to think of it as four separate ideas as opposed to viewing it as steps in a process.

    1. Great tips! I have been using some of these since starting my new job (a completely different path than the one I was on before with so many new things to learn) . Iโ€™ve also written recently about giving self doubt the boot! So important. Thanks for sharing this.
